Best in the Desert event, Vegas to Reno 2017 had seen 90 UTV’s in 3 different classes, all of which were very well qualified to take the top spot in their respective classes.
This 540 mile race from Beatty NV to Dayton NV is considered the fastest point to point off road race in the world.
Demon Powersports sponsored race team and Factory Polaris drivers Black Hills UTV made up of Mike Cafro and Jamie Kirkpatrick, were focused and ready to compete in the UTV Turbo class. Sporting an upgraded teal and blue vehicle wrap, the new look was definitely a head turner during Tech & Contingency.
Black Hills UTV had tackled the Vegas 2 Reno course with the new Demon Powersports +3.5” extended Demon X-treme axles. A fully assembled 4340 Chromoly dual heat treated axle, with a re-engineered cage design.
The new Demon X-treme axle had taken the full abuse the Vegas 2 Reno course had to offer with no issues, giving the Black Hills UTV team full confidence throughout the tough race.
Long-time desert ATV racers, Black Hills UTV made their move to RZRs a few seasons ago, and in the process earned their factory ride after a phenomenal effort at V2R a year prior.
Like many of the new teams and new vehicles this season, they have definitely had their share of bad luck.
The two have had many years of success with their biggest achievements being held south of the border in Baja. Their experience in Baja lends itself to finding success in a race like Vegas to Reno, the only real point-to point race in the series.
The two were on a mission and their RZR looked dialed, the team put up a fight, challenging for the lead until mechanical failure halted their momentum.
After an extremely tough race, the boys of Black Hills UTV managed to take 11th place. This won’t stop team Blackhills UTV, They plan to fix any issues occurred during Vegas to Reno and plan to come back even stronger for the Baja 1000 coming up mid-November.
